New Calcium Research Questionable Says Council For Responsible Nutrition

The British Medical Journal recently published a study indicating that women who had a higher dietary intake of calcium exceeding 1400mg/day and also used supplements had a higher all-cause and cardiovascular death rate compared to those not taking supplements. However, Taylor Wallace, Ph.D, senior director, scientific regulatory affairs for the Council for Responsible Nutrition released a statement condemning the study saying it “did not demonstrate a cause and effect relationship between calcium and heart health or all-cause mortality”.  She goes on to say that there are specific flaws within the study and its methodology.  She also says, “it did not adjust for the role of hormone replacement therapy (HRT), and since science has gone back and forth as to whether HRT helps or hurts the heart, the jury is out as to how this might influence the findings.”

Despite the research findings, we know calcium is essential.  While consumers should be aware of how much calcium they are getting from both food and supplementation, too little calcium is an undisputed health risk.  With PERQUE products, healthcare providers and patients alike can rest assure that calcium overdose is never an issue.  Our calcium-rich products such as PERQUE Bone Guard Forté 20 and the PERQUE Life Guard family include an essential balance of minerals and nutrients that synergistically promote comprehensive wellbeing rather than an over abundance of a single nutrient or mineral that may overwhelm the body.
