Wellness Pioneer Russell Jaffe, MD, PhD, CCN Launches Book, “Bhanté Dharmawara: Cambodian Monk Extraordinaire”
ASHBURN, VA – March 6, 2025
Bhanté Dharmawara (1889-1999) was a pioneering Buddhist monk who saved thousands of lives, including the Dalai Lama and Thich Nhat Hanh. Behind the scenes, he quietly piloted a new form of socially conscious Buddhism. He performed healings, brought harmony to fractious international situations, and had a wonderful tongue-in-cheek sense of humor.
He also lived to be 110 years old.
Bhanté guided the young Dalai Lama in diplomacy, taught French to a teenage Indira Gandhi, and was Prime Minister Nehru’s confidante as India was first becoming independent. Before he did all that, he was a Cambodian lawyer and courtier. Through his interventions, thousands of lives were spared during World War I in Europe.
You may never have heard of Bhanté until right now. That was by his design. He avoided headlines – yet he was a sophisticated strategic advisor to political leaders. He guided them and they changed the world.
Bhanté’s influence remains profound. This book reflects him….. He specifically wanted the cornucopia of knowledge that he imparted to his students to be shared with the world after the 20th anniversary of his physical passing when the need for his insights would be even greater and timelier.
Ingrun Mason writes, “Dr. Jaffe’s book is a gift to the world. At a time when our lives are governed by noise and ever increasing pressure to have more and be faster we lose focus of what is really important. Our heads are firmly embedded in technological clouds, we seem to be interconnected like never before and, yet, our hearts and souls feel lost and hollow. World events are shaped by mindless, ignorant leaders lacking compassion, thus creating great uncertainty for us all. At a time like this we need to change course, dive deep and find ourselves by increasing our self-awareness. Dr. Jaffe shares with us Bhanté Dharmawara’s experiences and teachings and shows us how we can develop our spiritual capacity and balance it with the physical aspects of well-being….”
Bhanté Dharmawara: Cambodian Monk Extraordinaire is now available for purchase on Amazon.com.

In his words, “Sam Dech Preah Bhanté Vira Bellong Dharmawara Mahathera, known as Bhanté, and I were mostly together for the last 30 years of his life. He was one of only two monks who outranked His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama. Bhanté went on to become my friend and teacher of many things, including his non-invasive color healing paradigm. His philosophies and teachings have influenced my insights into wellness, Nature’s Alkaline Way, and Nature’s pHarmacy®.”
