Ulcer drugs ‘link to fractures’

In News by Justin Welton

A staggering 113.4 million prescriptions for proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) are filled each year for the treatment of ulcers, heartburn and gastric reflux symptoms. Many more are available over the counter. Prolonged use of this medication has considerable negative effects including increasing the risk of fractures. Though the risk has at times been described as “not significant”, because proton pump inhibitors are commonly prescribed to control and prevent symptoms of chronic unrelenting conditions, it is likely that many patients use these medications for many years!

This class of drugs inhibits the production and intragastric secretion of hydrochloric acid, which is an important mediator of calcium absorption in the small intestine. This leads to decrease in bone mineral density.

PPIs and infection

Researchers have also found increase in infection after using PPIs. In a 2010 published study, incidence of recurrent infection with C. difficile increased by at least 42% with increasing doses of proton pump inhibitors

At PERQUE Integrative Health, we offer PERQUE Vessel Health Guard as a natural and safer alternative to PPIs. With the combined synergy of hydroxocobalamin (preferred form of Vitamin B12) and natural folates, PERQUE Vessel Health Guard provides superior methylation (communication) support. This strengthens the  muscle that separates the esophagus  from the stomach;  it stays closed and prevents the reflux (GERD) that proton pump inhibitors ( e.g Nexium, Prilosec) aim to  suppress.

PERQUE Vessel Health Guard is one of the product specials this month. Call us at 800-525-7372   to take advantage of this offer and to learn more about our other products.
