Company Overview

The roots of PERQUE Integrative Health, LLC (PIH) are imbedded in the history and works of the scientist who founded the company and who has remained, with the support of a dedicated staff, at its helm for over 24 years.

Dr. Russell M. Jaffe, CEO and Chairman of PIH worked at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) from 1973 to 1979 where the seeds of his vision began. On leaving NIH Dr. Jaffe began a journey that sought to support the emerging field of Integrative and Regenerative Medicine.

His dedication to the application of primary prevention and his commitment to providing superior nutraceuticals and autoimmune testing with clinical evidence of superior efficacy has made him a sought after speaker and leader in his chosen field.

In 1984 after, five years of research, Dr. Jaffe invented a process that would eventually lead him to the family of companies he runs today. This innovation's primary effort was to create a technology platform for measuring and monitoring all delayed allergies in the world's first single step amplified (ELISA) procedure. When accomplished it was the first performed in a living cell through an advanced culture technique (ACT). Today with over 50,000 cases in the lab database it remains a vibrant part of Dr. Jaffe's integrated operations.

Expanding to Reston, then to Sterling and now to a custom built headquarters and warehouse in Ashburn, Virginia, Dr. Jaffe is continuously expanding and seeking new ways to improve his existing operations while maintaining his production lab, ELISA/ACT® Biotechnologies, his PERQUE nutraceutical plant, and an R&D facility, RMJ Holdings Rx. Dr. Jaffe and his team of highly trained professionals continually look for new ways to help speed the transition from our current healthcare system's symptom reactive model to a more functionally integrated, effective and compassionate system.

PIH is the turnkey outcome of years of Dr. Jaffe's scientific research. It brings to market two decades of rethinking safer more effective, novel and proprietary dietary supplements, supplement delivery systems, diagnostic testing, and validation studies. PIH products and services have been used in pilot clinical outcome studies confirming results achieved in better managing such common conditions as diabetes, fibromyalgia muscle pain, and chronic fatigue syndrome (CFIDS).

Today, the company creates integrated systems that implement assessment protocols and tools that combine information technology with advanced products for enhanced understanding, compliance and monitoring outcomes.

From his humble beginnings in 1984 to today, Dr. Jaffe and his team have steadily moved forward and produced a volume of evidence-based work that has profoundly enhanced functional human nutrition, integrative medicine and proactive preventive healthcare models.

 

Company Timeline

  • 1984:

    Starting in the basement of his Vienna, Virginia home Russell Jaffe builds the first technology platform for measuring all delayed allergies in the world's first single step amplified (ELISA) procedure performed in a living cell through an advanced culture technique (ACT).

  • 1987-1988:

    PIH launches PERQUE DetoxIn Guard and a comprehensive multivitamin PERQUE Life Guard™ after recognizing the need for 100% available dietary supplements based on identity standards for ingredient activity and purity, enhanced uptake through transporters, and unique synergies from evidence based formulas.

  • 1989:

    PIH launches PERQUE Potent C Guard, the first fully reduced multi-mineral and buffered 100% ascorbate and PERQUE Pain Guard to address oxidative stress and antioxidant deficits in first responder repair cells. PERQUE Life Guard™ is chosen for a double blind placebo controlled trial of multivitamin bioavailability at USUHS in Bethesda, MD. Dr. Jaffe is asked to serve as the American College of Nutrition delegate to the Nation Nutrition Consortium in Washington, DC.

  • 1990:

    Successful outcome study of PERQUE Life Guard™ is reported at American College of Nutrition showing full bioavailability compared to less than 20% bioavailability from other reports of multivitamin uptake. Dr. Jaffe helps organize the certification of clinical nutritionists through the International and American Associations for Clinical Nutrition (IAACN).

  • 1991:

    PIH launches PERQUE PERKIES™, a novel comprehensive chewable multivitamin. PIH updates PERQUE Bone Guard Forte™, its novel bone enhancement formula. PERQUE Life Guard™ full bioavailability outcome study is published in peer reviewed American Journal of Clinical Nutrition. Dr. Jaffe is asked to serve as program chairman for the IAACN / CCN certification program and serves in this capacity for the first eight years of the organization's growth. His audio tape series become core curriculum for the CCN training program.

  • 1992:

    PIH launches PERQUE Double Zinc™, a novel zinc formula. PIH supplements are chosen for successful clinical outcome study of Fibromyalgia muscle pain. Dr. Jaffe brings together The Alkaline Way under principles of Physiology First, personalized healthcare, proactive prevention and of integrative sciences. Dr. Jaffe and Edward Morris, a client and educator devoted to speeding the transition to a healthier tomorrow for all, coauthor a white paper about the Alkaline Way and founding principles.

  • 1993:

    PIH supplements are chosen for a successful clinical outcome study of zinc bioavailability. Dr. Jaffe is invited to learned societies such as OTA, US Congress, NIH, HHS, USUHS, DOD, IOM, NAS to discuss The Alkaline Way.

  • 1994:

    PIH launches PERQUE Hematin Anemia Guard for comprehensive anemia protection. PIH supplements are used in a successful clinical outcome study of type 2 diabetes. Dr. Jaffe assists in developing the D-pencillamine protocol introduced for assessment of essential nutritional minerals as well as toxic minerals. Dr. Jaffe adds bio-detoxification protocol to The Alkaline Way in light of the increased burden of exposures inherent in modern life in both industrial and agricultural societies.

  • 1995:

    PIH pioneers a new supplement delivery system in the form of a micellized, highly active softgel with extended shelf life. PIH launches PERQUE MitoGuard Plus™, pure coenzyme Q10 and tocopherols in 100% rice bran oil. PIH launches PERQUE B12 Guard™, a novel under the tongue delivery system for enhanced brain uptake. PIH supplements are again used in successful clinical outcome study of type 2 diabetes. Dr. Jaffe participates in the most successful pilot clinical outcome study ever performed in adult, type 2 as well as insulin dependent type 1 diabetics.

  • 1996:

    PIH launches and files patent on PERQUE Endura PAK Guard™, recycled glutamine as well as PERQUE Prost8 Vitality Guard™, a comprehensive prostate vitality formula. Clinical observations demonstrate that the synergy of high potency ingredients in PERQUE Prost8 Vitality Guard deliver results within two weeks rather than two - six months. Dr. Jaffe expands his biodefense detoxification program by emphasizing advanced prebiotics and probiotics on enhanced repair through recycled glutamine and more active polyphenolic activators of first responder cells.

  • 1997:

    PIH launches PERQUE Joint Guard, a novel, comprehensive, quick results joint repair formula, along with PERQUE Zinc Plus Lozenges™ and PERQUE Liva Guard, a liver detoxifying formula. PIH updates and improves PERQUE Hematin Anemia Guard. Dr. Jaffe updates Fibromyalgia study and finds continued improvement in quality of life and reduced cost of care for participants with high, long-term continuity.

  • 1998:

    PIH launches PERQUE Triple EFA Guard™, novel, essential, and comprehensive beneficial fats, along with PERQUE Mood Guard™, a unique and natural mood modulator. PERQUE Potent C Guard is deemed the preferred choice for ascorbate calibration, a protocol that determines individual vitamin C needs.

  • 1999:

    PIH launches PERQUE Digesta Guard Forte, a novel, enhanced probiotic formula. PIH also launches PERQUE Mag Plus Guard™, a magnesium formula with enhanced uptake when combined with PERQUE Choline Citrate™. The combination of these two supplements is found superior in value and in correcting excess cell acid that amplifies chronic, degenerative and autoimmune illness. Dr. Jaffe refines the fundamental causes of good and ill health around healthy cell metabolic balance through understanding alkaline vs. acidic states, antioxidant sufficiency vs. oxidative stress risk, and communication vs. transport status as reflected in methylation. Dr. Jaffe introduces inexpensive consumer assessment tools to measure the predictive variables associated with root causes of good and ill health, including first morning urine pH test.

  • 2000:

    PERQUE launches PERQUE Glucose Regulation Guard, a novel, enhanced blood sugar support supplement. Dr. Jaffe's first morning urine pH testing is accepted as reference standard to clinically assess metabolic acidosis risk.

  • 2001:

    PIH launches PERQUE Repair Guard, an enhanced repair, inflammation and pain fighting formula. Dr. Jaffe continues to develop inexpensive, predictive tests that can be used in the field or by individuals at home as interests in self-tests begins to expand briskly.

  • 2002:

    Dr. Jaffe's skin pinch test becomes a standardized method for testing dehydration. Self-test for hydration is latest addition to health for life toolkit Dr. Jaffe continues to assemble.

  • 2003:

    Dr. Jaffe updates the D-pencillamine protocol for assessment of essential nutritional minerals as well as toxic minerals. The protocol is accepted by ICIM as reference standard for concurrent assessment of essential and toxic minerals at the cell level.

  • 2004:

    PIH launches PERQUE Vessel Health Guard, a novel methylation formulation, along with PERQUE Digesta Guard Forte 10, an enhanced probiotic formula, PERQUE EPA/DHA Guard™, the most potent source of omega 3, & PERQUE Leaner Body Guard and PERQUE Glucose Control Guard for better fat and sugar metabolism as well as improved energy, vitality and resilience. Follow up of fibromyalgia and diabetes studies shows continued better outcomes and lower cost of care with PIH supplements.

  • 2005:

    PIH launches PERQUE Adreno Distress Guard™, a novel restorative adrenal stress hormone formula that is the first formula to rehabilitate adrenal gland thus restoring its ability to make more and better balances of hormones essential for body functions. Successful outcome study of PERQUE Adreno Distress Guard shows improvement in all study groups.

  • 2006:

    PIH launches PERQUE Metabo Lipid Detox Guard, a novel fat burner formula, to replace PERQUE Leaner Body Guard. PIH also launches PERQUE Glucose Regulation Guard to replace PERQUE Glucose Control Guard. PIH updates PERQUE Bone Guard Forte 20, its novel bone enhancement formula. Dr. Jaffe notes clinical reports of 6-10+% new bone formation after two years on PERQUE Better Bones for Life program. No documented losses of bone density reported in contrast to the conventional approaches that slow loss of bone rather than stimulate healthy new bone formation like in a comprehensive Physiology First approach.

  • 2007:

    PIH launches PERQUE Regularity Guard, a novel fiber supplement for regularity and digestive ease. Dr. Jaffe continues to develop products that rethink their category and extends their application in combination to meet the most challenging clinical needs.

  • 2008:

    PIH updates PERQUE Digesta Guard Forte 10, its probiotic formula. PIH develops the Health Appraisal Questionnaire to help health professionals manage their patient's results of PIH's delayed allergy testing, also known as LRA by ELISA/ACT™.

  • 2009:

    PIH launches PERQUE D3 Cell Guard, a novel, mucosal uptake vitamin D3 formula. PERQUE D3 Cell Guard™ is found to produce better uptake and outcomes in clinical study at Boston University Medical Center under Dr. Michael Holick. Dr. Jaffe helps found the ReThink Health collaboration to speed the identification of cost and outcome effective care.

  • 2010:

    PIH launches PERQUE Whey Guard, a novel meal replacement formula as well as the PERQUE Detox Kit, a cluster of products for a one - three month detox program.

  • 2011:

    Dr. Jaffe uses the success of the PERQUE Whey Guard meal powder as the base for a family of healthy snack bars that continue the nutritious and delicious approach he has pioneered.
